The production will be the first major stage work conceived entirely as a stand-alone performance with directorial dramaturgy.
Bernes did not have conservatory training and used to joke that musical notes reminded him of teacups. However, this did not prevent the artist from becoming one of the most recognizable performers of his time. His voice has remained in the musical memory of several generations thanks to songs from Soviet films, including “Two Soldiers,” where the famous “Dark Night” was heard.
In the concert program, Bernes’s songs will be performed by Honored Artist of Russia Sergey Volchkov. Stories and little-known facts from the artist’s life between musical numbers will be presented by Honored Artist of Russia Igor Gordin.
The musical accompaniment will be provided by the L. G. Zykina State Academic Russian Folk Ensemble “Russia,” conducted by Dmitry Dmitrienko.
The Moscow evening will mark the beginning of the project’s touring cycle. After the capital, the production will be shown in Voronezh, St. Petersburg, and Nizhny Novgorod. Only one performance is planned in each city.
The project is being implemented with the support of the Presidential Fund for Cultural Initiatives. Read more on the website.
