During the campaign, staff and friends of the Russian House planted about 70 new trees in the Burkinabè capital, Ouagadougou. The saplings appeared in the Russian–Burkinabè Friendship Park, along Avenue de la Dignité, and near a school in the Patte d’Oie district.
Today, caring for environmental well-being in Burkina Faso is not just a trend, but a state priority, a strategic necessity, and a key condition for sustainable development. The country’s authorities actively promote “green” projects to preserve natural wealth and improve people’s quality of life.
Desertification is an especially acute problem in Burkina Faso, and forest restoration has been declared a nationwide task by the President. National Tree Day—a state initiative actively supported by volunteers from the Russian House of the Center for Public Diplomacy—is intended to contribute to this effort.
Russian participants in the campaign emphasized that caring for nature is a shared responsibility that unites people regardless of nationality, culture, or place of residence. Volunteers of the Russian House hope that the large-scale tree planting will make the urban environment more favorable and comfortable for future generations of Burkinabè citizens.
Environmental initiatives in Ouagadougou with the participation of the Center for Public Diplomacy will certainly continue, with new greening campaigns already being planned.
